AO Smith Improves Tankless Water Heaters

From beginning of March, 2012, AO Smith started implementing remote controllers and/or power cords on every tankless water heater for home water heating.

According to AO Smith, adding a remote control as the standard component will increase the value of the on demand heaters. It will provide an easy access to temperature settings and diagnostics, which will make the troubleshooting much easier and monitoring convenient.

Adding a power cord means less time spent for the installation.

Here is the list of the AO Smith water heaters with the both remote control and power cord:

ATI-110; ATI-310; ATI-510; ATI-320H; ATI-520H

Here is the list with tankless models with the remote only:

ATO-110; ATO-301; ATO-510; ATO-520H

Recall Notice from Navien

Navien America just announced a recall to replace the Nylon 66 exhaust vent collars with PVC collars on some Navien tankless water heaters.

The recall is due to the improper installation/connection of the vent pipes. Since the vent could break away from the collar this could lead to the leaks of the products of combustion, especially dangerous carbon monoxide.

The recall applies on the following Navien tankless water heaters (13,000 total):

CR-180(A), CR-210(A), CR-240(A), CC-180(A), CC-210(A), CC-240(A)

which are produced from January 3 2008 to December 2, 2008 and sold from February 2008 through March 2009.

Detail information can be found on CPSC (US Consumer Product Safety Commission) website:

http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml12/12074.html

If you are the owner of the Navien tankless water heater, you should stop using it and check the model.

If the model is from the list from the above, contact Navien ((800) 244-8202) and schedule a free repair.

According to the Energy Saving Trust from UK, properly installed solar water heater can provide hot water up to 60% of one household.

88 homes have been studied for one year in residential homes in UK and Ireland. The survey shows that this result depends on the quality of the installation and the owners' habits in using the solar water heaters.

Two solar water heating systems have been used: flat plate and evacuated tubes and the produced energy is almost the same. The only difference have been found in how well the pipes and water tank heater have been insulated.

Better insulation means lower energy loss.
