Privacy and Cookie Policy
Last updated: 4 August 2026. This policy replaces the version dated 13
October 2021, which described a previous version of this website hosted on a different
platform. That document named data processors and advertising networks that are no longer used
and described analytics that are not currently running. It was inaccurate rather than merely
out of date, which is why it has been replaced rather than amended.
The short version
This website currently sets no cookies at all unless you have explicitly
agreed to analytics cookies. There is no advertising on this site, no advertising cookies, and
no third-party trackers. Nothing on this site profiles you, and nothing is shared with
advertising networks.
Analytics cookies, and the consent that gates them
We intend to use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and understand which pages are useful.
It is configured with Google Consent Mode v2 and defaults to denied for every
visitor, in every country, without exception. That means:
- No analytics cookie is written when you arrive.
- Nothing is measured until you press Accept on the cookie banner.
- If you press Reject, no analytics cookie is written and any analytics cookie
already on your device from this site is deleted. - Your choice is stored in your browser's own local storage, under the key
hwhr_consent_v1. It is not a cookie, it is never sent to our server, and it never
leaves your device.
If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and
_ga_<identifier>. They contain a randomly generated identifier for your
browser, not your name or address, and they expire after two years. We have IP anonymisation
enabled and we do not enable Google's advertising or personalisation signals.
You can change your mind at any time. A Cookie settings control
stays available at the bottom-left of every page after you have made a choice. Withdrawing
consent is exactly as easy as giving it, which is the standard we hold ourselves to.
What is running right now
We are stating this precisely rather than in general terms, because a privacy policy that
describes an intention as if it were a fact is the most common way these documents become
untrue.
At the time of writing, Google Analytics is not yet switched on. The
consent mechanism described above is installed and working, but no measurement property has
been connected to it yet, so this site is currently setting no cookies whatsoever
and no cookie banner is displayed. There is nothing to consent to, so we do not ask. When
analytics is switched on, the banner will appear and the behaviour described above applies from
that moment.
Forms on this site
A number of pages on this site carry contact, question and contribution forms left over from
the site's previous platform. Those forms do not work. They are not connected
to anything, and anything typed into them is discarded without reaching us or being stored
anywhere. We have disabled them and labelled them so that nobody submits information believing
it has been received. We have not removed the surrounding pages, because their content is still
useful.
No personal information submitted through those forms has been stored, because none of it
was ever received.
Server logs
Like effectively every website, our web host records standard access logs: the IP address of
the request, the page requested, the time, the referring page and the browser's user-agent
string. These are generated by the web server itself, not by a cookie or a script, and they
exist so that the site can be operated and defended against abuse. They are not used to build
profiles of visitors and are not shared with third parties.
Advertising and affiliate relationships
We run no advertising network on this site and set no advertising cookies.
No ad script, ad exchange or retargeting pixel runs here.
We hold no affiliate account and earn nothing from the links on this site.
On 5 August 2026 we removed the affiliate and lead-generation links this site inherited from its
previous operator. Every one of them carried a tracking identifier registered years before the
domain changed hands — they were never a commercial arrangement we entered into or were paid
under.
A census of all 618 live pages, read from the published site after the change, found
no HomeAdvisor link, no Networx link, and no link carrying an affiliate tracking
identifier of any kind. The same census, run that morning, found them on 560 pages.
150 pages still link to Amazon, to the products their reviews are about.
Those links carry no tracking identifier and earn this site nothing. We are not a participant in
the Amazon Associates programme and hold no affiliate account with any retailer or
contractor-matching service. Nothing on this site is selected, ranked or omitted because of a
commercial relationship, because there is none.
Correction, 5 August 2026: the version of this page published on 4 August stated
that there were no affiliate relationships at all. That was wrong. It was written from a
decision — that this site would not pursue monetisation — rather than from a measurement of
what the pages actually contain, and nobody checked the pages until the next day.
Correction, 5 August 2026 (second): a paragraph published earlier the same day said
the inherited links were "under review for removal" and put them on "561 of 618 pages". They
have since been removed, so the first half is out of date. The second half was slightly
overstated: 561 counted 618 pages against a set that included on-site banner images as well as
outbound links; the number of pages carrying an outbound affiliate or lead-generation link was
560. Both figures are superseded by the census described above.
Our footers also carried a sentence stating that this site is "a participant in the Amazon
Services LLC Associates Program … designed to provide a means for us to earn fees". That was
inherited from the previous operator and was untrue of us. It was removed from all 123 pages
carrying it on 5 August 2026.
What we do not do
- We do not sell, rent or share personal information.
- We do not use advertising, retargeting or social media tracking cookies.
- We do not run cross-site trackers or fingerprinting scripts.
- We do not have a newsletter or mailing list at present, so we hold no subscriber list.
Your rights
If you are in the UK, the EU or another jurisdiction with comparable law, you have the right
to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or
restrict its processing, and to complain to your data protection authority.
How to make a request. Email
contact@hot-water-heaters-reviews.com.
It is a monitored mailbox and it is the route for any request about your data — access,
correction, erasure, objection or restriction. We will respond within one month of receiving
your request, as the law requires.
The forms this site used to offer for that purpose did not work: they discarded every
submission. They have been disabled rather than left to look functional, and any page that still
shows one now says so. If you submitted a request through one of them before 3 August 2026, it
did not reach us — please send it again to the address above.
In practical terms, and stated so you can judge the gap for yourself: if you have not
accepted analytics cookies, this site holds no personal data about you beyond the server access
logs described above. If you have accepted them, the data sits in Google Analytics against a
random identifier, and you can remove it from your side at any time by pressing
Reject in Cookie settings, which deletes the cookie, and by clearing your
browser's storage for this site.
Changes to this policy
If our cookie or privacy practices change materially, we will update this page and change
the date at the top. We would rather this page be accurate and admit a gap than be complete and
wrong, which is the mistake the previous version made.
