As all the conventional 30, 40 and 50 gallon residential gas-fired hot water heaters with the gas input of less than 75,000 BTUs, must comply for FVIR or Flammable Vapor Ignition Resistance, Bradford White has designed and implemented the Defender Safety System.
What is Defender Safety System?
The flame arrestor is part of the ScreenLok Technology preventing the flammable vapors coming from outside to be ignited outside and in close proximity to the combustion chamber. This system also provides better efficiency and very low NOx emissions. Thermal switch is installed to deactivate burner and pilot light if there is no sufficient air flow due to lint dust or oil accumulated on the arrestor plate.
There are two limited warranty options for Bradford White gas water heaters; one is standard 6 years and the other, extended, is 10 years, both warranties cover glass-lined tank. 6-year warranty is also provided, covering most of the component parts.
12-year limited warranty on heat exchanger and 5 on parts is provided for BW on demand hot water heaters.

Natural Gas and Propane LP Model Reviews

Atmospheric Vent Review
Atmospheric vent water heaters are the most common type of hot water heating appliances. They are using one vertical vent pipe that passes straight up through the roof. With a water heater draft diverter, pipe that is long enough and natural drought, products of combustion are atmospherically and securely vented out.
Defender Safety System Atmospheric Vent Energy Saver water heaters feature 10 models from 29 to 60-gallon tank size and gas input from 30,000 to 50,000 BTU. These models are recommended for small to medium size homes. All the appliances are equipped with the FVIR protection system.
High Input Atmospheric Vent Energy Saver Models feature large 75 and 100-gallon tank size, high recovery rate and 76,000 and 85,000 BTU gas input. No need for external energy supply as it is using pilot flame heat energy to convert to electrical supply.
Extra Recovery Bradford White water heaters provide more hot water than standard appliances and in less time. There are three models available, ranging from 40 to 65 tank size and 40,000-65,000 BTU gas input. All the appliances are equipped with the FVIR protection system.
If you need an extra recovery unit with larger tank size, 75-gallon water heater is available but with no Defender Safety System.
High Energy Factor, EF, Energy Saver models are atmospheric water heaters that are the most energy efficient BW models, EnergyStar qualified and eligible for energy rebate. 5 models are available, from 30 to 60-gallon capacity and 32,000 to 40,000 BTU. They are equipped with Defender Safety System.
Energy Saver High Performance Bradford White water heaters are designed for high water demand as they provide high recovery and first hour delivery. 25-gallon model with 78,000 BTU can provide 155 gallons and 55-gallon model with 80,000 BTU, 200 gallons of hot water in an hour.
Eco-Defender Safety System Ultra Low NOx Series are the green water heaters, eco-friendly appliances as they emit 75% less NOx than standard models. 19 models are available, ranging from 30 to 65-gallon capacity and 30,000-55,000 BTU. Some models are high efficiency and some are extra recovery.

Power vented water heaters are using the fan that forces the exhaust gases out, through the vent pipe. They can be used when the long vent pipes are needed, because of the heater location.
Energy Saver High Performance TTW models feature two sizes: 25 and 55-gallon capacity providing 76,000 and 78,000 BTU/hr and delivering amazing 155 and 200 gallons.
Defender Safety System Energy Saver TTW1 Models are EnergyStar water heaters with 40, 50 and 60 gallons tank size and from 40,000 to 42,000 BTU/hr gas input. Very flexible on vent installation.
Defender Safety System Energy Saver TTW2 Models and Non-Defender Models offer three models 48, 65 and 75-gallon tank size and even more BTU/hr than TTW1 models.
Direct Vent
Direct vent water heaters are venting combustion products through the outside wall and using outside air for combustion.
Defender Safety System Energy Saver Direct Vent models are closed combustion water heaters, with co-axial, pipe inside a pipe, venting system. There are two 40 and 50-gallon capacity models with 38,000 and 42,000 BTU/hr. High-Input models are also available with 48, 65 and 75-gallon tank size and 50,000 to 60,000 BTUs.
Defender Safety System PDX1 Energy Saver Power Direct Vent Models features 40 and 50-gallon tank size and 40,000 BTU gas input, while PDX2 is built in three sizes: 48, 65 and 75-gallon, and 60,000 to 70,000 BTUs. With two-pipe option it provides even more flexibility.

Other models
Defender Safety System Energy Saver Manufactured Homes models are designed as atmospheric and direct vent closed combustion units for mobile homes. Available models are 30 and 40-gallon size with 32,000 and 34,000 BTU and closed combustion water heater with 30,000 BTU.
EverHot series are tankless models used for residential applications with the continuous supply of hot water. Six EnergyStar models are available with up to 199,000 BTU per hour gas input and with an inside and outside installation options.
